2009 in photos

December 17, 2009

I have been a little slack when taking photos of anything other than bands this year. So that is what you will mostly see, but here is my year in Photographs

9th January – First international band of the year, Comeback Kid

19th January – Went to Bethels Lake with some great people, this place has the biggest sand dunes I have ever seen

25th & 27th January – Got my new Lomo Fisheye Camera and took photos of EVERYTHING

1st February – Went to The Mount and tried out making a redscale film

5th February – Flew over to Melbourne, hung out in this sweet bar on the roof of a tall building and took a few photos with my newly purchased Canon 5d mkII

and caught up with the best dudes Melbourne has to offer, Nicolai and This City Sunrise (now Gatherer – http://www.myspace.com/gathererband)

(well it was the 6th at this point) the TCS guys took Nicolai and I into town to go an see this girl Kimbra who put on a great show (http://www.myspace.com/kimbramusic)

6th February – Later that day (also one of the hottest days I have ever experienced) I ended up at another show, this time to see a New Zealand band that was on tour, Antagonist along with As Blood Runs Black from the states and a few other bands

8th February – Caught the tram out to some suburb of Melbourne to see a few of the local bands, was a great show but I particularly enjoyed All My Circuits (now just Circuits I believe http://www.myspace.com/allmycircuitshc)

13th February – Made sure to catch This City Sunrise while I was over

at about 5am on the very long walk back to where they were staying we decided to check out a warehouse I had spotted from the motorway on the bus ride in from the airport. Would love to actually go inside this place some time.

14th & 15th February – Both nights I went to watch Misery Signals who put on a couple of amazing shows, really nice guys also.

BBQ before the show and local band In Trenches made the show on the 15th particularly good.

19th February – In Brisbane at this point, taking blury photos of myself in front of a bridge

Later that night we met up with a couple guys and went to shoot some old trains, and one of these guys (who we had never met before) loaned my his Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS (no big deal just a $3000 lens)

21st February – Soundwave Festival, what a great lineup, the bands I watched/photographed (in no particular order) included The Dillinger Escape Plan, Saves The Day, Every Time I Die, Evergreen Terrace, Horse The Band, Nine Inch Nails, New Found Glory, Unearth and many others

After the show was over I headed out to Evergreen Terraces hotel for a promo shoot, we were all very tired and they had a flight to catch early in the morning so it was very rushed

6th & 7th March – Back in New Zealand in time for Hamtown Smakdown, always a good show. Highlights were Ricky Bobby, Wasteland, Strangers & Neon Bastard

11th March – At this point I was now living in Hamilton

12th March – Partied in Auckland and stacked things on top of a passed out Josh Of

14th March – Smashin’ Off reunion show at Whammy Bar in Auckland.

Found a guy in an expensive looking suit passed out in the park down the stairs from Whammy Bar after the show, naturally we done the right thing and took photos with him.

Looks a bit like Barrack Obama, with Johns ball in the background.

After party involved a glowstick fight and drawing on a once again passed out Josh Of

31st March – My dads birthday. I was in Auckland shooting Rise Against

23rd April – John gets a very drunken haircut at about 2pm

4th & 5th May – Trash Talk shows in Auckland. Last ever show at the Fox Den

14th May – On the set of a short film “In My Lovers Den”

19th May – Cancer Bats & Bring Me The Horizon at The Studio in Auckland

23rd May – Antagonist, The Chase, Brick vs Face, Wasteland at Meteor in Hamilton

29th & 31st May – Two of many shows at Thrash Palace, Hamilton

3rd July (apparently nothing happened in June) – Another show at The Palace

25th July – xDavex’s farewell – introducing the Bacon Esplosion

8th August – Kerretta & Arc Of Ascent at Flow Bar, Hamilton

28th August – The new flat (been living there a few months at this point)

8th September – Haste The Day at Transmission Room, Auckland

11th September – Raglan with Brad and Maddy

29th September – Playing with the new lens (Canon 24mm f1.4L)

1st October – First show shot with the new lens, in someones apartment on Victoria Street, Hamilton
